Irish Parish Priest Stands Accused Of Presenting Horrifying Gay Porn Images

The Meeting Attendees Viewed 16 Gay Porn Images, Listened To A Church Presentation,  And Then Expressed Outrage And Horror When It Was Over.

Try to picture this scene in your head. You’re a good Catholic family and you’ve baptized your children at your local parish church. You enrolled your children in the Catholic primary school, and you have a son or daughter who is 7 years old, and in the second grade, and it’s time for the students to plan for their first confession. Your child brings home a notice from the parish priest, that the second grade parents are invited to a school meeting, to review the first communion mass and celebration, and what is expected of the children and parents on this blessed day.

In the village of Pomeroy, in Northern Ireland, population approximately 600 inhabitants, parents gathered at St. Mary’s Primary School, to watch a slide presentation about the first communion mass, being presented by Father Martin McVeigh. Father McVeigh is the local parish priest, and he made this presentation many times before. He checked his briefcase before walking to the school meeting, and the flash memory stick (or usb thumb drive) containing his presentation was in the proper place, up to date and ready to go. Father McVeigh welcomed the parents,  and retrieved his memory stick, and inserted it into his laptop to begin the program. The first slide that appeared on the screen, was allegedly a graphic picture of gay porn. Parents were scandalised! The priest ran out of the room! The first slide of gay porn was followed by 15 more.

According to the BBC, the parish priest inserted his memory stick into a computer, that resulted in gay porn being projected onto a screen. The BBC reports “Priest in 'indecent images' row at primary school in Pomeroy:”:

Parents said 16 indecent images of men were displayed. The priest said he had no knowledge of the offending imagery.

Cardinal Sean Brady said the PSNI had indicated that no crime had been committed.

The incident occurred during a meeting at St Mary's School in Pomeroy on 26 March.

According to a statement from the parents, the images were projected onto the screen from a memory stick the parish priest had inserted into a computer before the presentation.

The parents said Fr McVeigh quickly removed the memory stick.

"He was visibly shaken and flustered," said the parents. "He gave no explanation or apology to the group and bolted out of the room. The co-ordinator and the teachers then continued with the presentation.

"The meeting continued in his absence, however, the parents who viewed the pictures were horrified and distracted.

"Twenty minutes later he returned, he continued with the meeting and wrapped up by saying that the children get lots of money for their Holy Communion and should consider giving some of it to the church."

Think about this for a moment. With multiple reports that Father McVeigh projected an image with gay porn, from his memory stick, onto a screen that parents and one child witnessed - I’d love to know what the parents who were present consider to be “gay porn.” The local police said that no crime was committed. The “horrified and distracted parents” were adults, and the story doesn’t say what images specifically were horrifying, or pornographic, but these people were so shocked and horrified that they stayed put at the meeting, and Father McVeigh was able to collect himself and come back to finish the presentation.

When I first saw this story come across the wires this morning, I thought “what a surprise - another pervert Priest goes off the rails” and I didn’t plan on sharing or commenting on the story. Something about the story kept nagging at me. I researched Pomeroy, and read about Cardinal Brady, who has come under significant fire for his ineffective response to sexual abuse allegations that were made in his archdiocese.

I was sexually assaulted and abused at a very young age, and as a result I have very strong feelings about the perpetrators who rape and assault children. My gut reaction is usually lock them up and throw away the key, which was my initial reaction to reading this story.

Then I thought about good old Judge Judy, and her way of thinking. She has some choice sayings that are very valid, and while I think she’s too over the top sometimes, I also think she’s very effective when she doesn’t engage in loud histrionics, and restrains herself from swinging her big dick around the courtroom*, to intimidate the litigants. She often says during a case, when it doesn’t make sense, it’s not true, and I think that’s the case here.

The priest showed a gay pornographic image, and then ran out of the room. The parents saw 16 images? They were horrified but watched and stayed in their seats? Then Father McVeigh returned and finished the presentation? Now they are calling for Father McVeigh to be fired?

There’s more to this story than meets the eye in Pomeroy, and I hope that someone with a brain gets to the bottom of it, without trying Father McVeigh in the media first. This story reminds me that I shouldn’t immediately jump to a conclusion that all Catholic priests are guilty of child molestation. This story makes no sense. What do you think?

*I apologize if the metaphor I employed to characterize Judge Judy’s courtroom behavior is offensive to anyone. I feel it’s apt, and I stand by my characterization.

straight talk in a queer world.
