Santorum: Liar Liar Pants On Fire!

KPIX Anchor Dana King Implores Santorum: Get Your Facts Straight!

I was watching the late showing of the eleven o’clock news on KPIX CBS 5 in San Francisco, after Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show. I had watched the news at 6pm and 11pm on channel 7. The local news reports all day have focused on the horrific school shooting and tragedy in Oakland. I have to say that my heart goes out to the victims and their families.

Admittedly, I’m a creature of habit if truth be told, and when I’m at home during the evening news hour, I watch KGO’s ABC 7 with Dan Ashley, Carolyn Johnson and Larry Beil. Our local KPIX CBS 5 news crew is just as good as ABC 7, and when I heard news anchor Dana King scolding Presidential candidate Rick ‘Sicko’ Santorum about how he should get his “facts straight,” I couldn’t help but smile.

You see, ‘Sicko’ Santorum is starting to feel some heat, and the Republican party is starting to pressure the erstwhile candidate into dropping out of the race. Newtie Newt’s money has dried up, so he can no longer mount a credible campaign, and the money and endorsements are all falling toward Willard Mitt Romney, so the cognoscenti are telling Santorum to go home, and get out of the race.

The reason why Dana King told ‘Sicko’ to get his facts straight, is because the man was campaigning and telling outright lies about California to anyone who will listen. Candidate ‘Sicko’ said:

“I was just reading something last night from the state of California. And that the California universities - I think it’s seven or eight of the California system of universities don’t even teach an American history course. It’s not even available to be taught.

Just to tell you how bad it's gotten in this country. Where we're trying to disconnect the American people from the roots of who we are, so they have an understanding of what America should be.”

The truth of the matter is that in 7 out of the 8 University of California schools that ‘Sicko’ is referring to, you can major in history. At the prestigious University of California San Francisco, you can’t major in history, as it is solely a graduate school, with a limited enrollment. If he had done his homework --- he would know that UCSF is one of the finest medical schools in the country. Maybe he can’t read?

UC Berkeley’s newspaper, The Daily Californian, reported Sicko’s gaffe. Curan Mehra writes:

UC Berkeley history professor Robin Einhorn, who is teaching a course titled “The United States from Civil War to Present” this semester, called Santorum’s claim “completely, laughably false.”

Santorum’s campaign headquarters could not be reached to clarify what Santorum was reading, but a perusal of course catalogs from the University of California, California State University and California Community Colleges reveals a plethora of courses focusing on U.S. history.

Each of the state’s 112 community college campuses offers a course in U.S. history, according to community college spokesperson Paige Marlatt-Dorr.

At the UC and CSU, all undergraduates must take a U.S. history course in order to graduate, UC and CSU spokespeople said.

This is clearly another example of a desperate man playing loose with the facts. It makes you wonder who on earth could support this man for any political office. Was he born a liar?

As much as I would like ‘Sicko” to stick around a little longer, just for the comedy value alone, my political instinct tells me that his star is sinking fast, and that we’ll have to turn our full attention to Willard Mitt Romney.

Thank you Dana King! She tells the truth.

straight talk in a queer world.
