Saturday Shorts: Gay Porn On Morning News, Anglicans Say Gay Marriage Good For Church, Quelle Surprise! Romney Hires A Fab Gay PR Person

*(No Pun Intended) Coming to A TV News Program Near You!

This is just too funny to not talk about! Imagine you go outside and pick up the morning newspaper. You come back inside and your morning coffee is brewed and you turn on the morning television news, and you get comfy in front of the TV as you’re going to read your paper, and drink your coffee, and you hear the word “suck” - and you look up and there is gay porn on your TV.

You never look at gay porn, you are happily married to your beautiful wife of 16 years, your kids are asleep in their rooms, and you see two men feverishly going at it!

According to Chris Matyszczyk at CNET.com:
An Ontario TV station apologizes after airing gay porn during its morning newscast, saying it was having its cables repaired and that the splicing seems to have been imperfect. Can we believe this?

So there were viewers of CHCH TV in Hamilton, Ontario, munching on their morning croissants and offering one eye to their morning newscast.

Suddenly a collective "eh?" must have been heard all the way in Montreal. For, that morning newscast was interrupted with a show in which naked bodies of the same sex writhed and, well, other things.

This was not a mere glimpse. It was not a blip. The Hollywood Reporter tells me it was three minutes of, well, please turn on your imaginations now.

The official explanation some might find curious.

In an apology, Mike Katrycz, head of CHCH news offered: "This was a problem that originated, not at CHCH, but at a cable company. Apparently some cable lines had been cut, and in the splicing back together some inappropriate content went to air. Again it was beyond the control of CHCH, but we do apologize to our viewers."

Oh, oh, oh.

So a cable company somehow was in possession of the power to override the TV station? No one at the TV station could possibly have turned off the turn-on in under 3 minutes?

That is just too funny for words!

Leading Anglicans Say Church of England Has Nothing To Fear About Gay Marriage

BBC news is reporting that ‘a group of leading Anglicans says the Church of England has "nothing to fear" from the prospect of gay marriage and it is should be a cause for rejoicing.’

In a letter to The Times, prominent figures including five former bishops say statements by church leaders give a false impression of popular feeling.

"We believe the Church has nothing to fear from... civil marriage for same-sex couples," it says.

"It will be for the churches to then decide how they respond pastorally."

A leading signatory of the letter is Dr Jeffrey John, the openly gay dean of St Albans, whose appointment as Bishop of Reading in 2003 was withdrawn after protests from conservative Anglicans.

It is also signed by the suffragan bishop of Buckingham and the deans of Portsmouth, Norwich and Guildford.

It says marriage is a "robust institution which has adapted much over the centuries" and has "moved beyond the polygamy of the Old Testament and preoccupation with social status and property in pre-Enlightenment times".

All I can say is Amen to that!

Romney Hires Openly Gay PR Consultant

In the Huffington Post, Steve Clemons, who is the Washington Editor At Large for the Atlantic, asks if Willard Mitt Romney will get rid of Republican anti-gay bigotry because he hired an openly gay registered Republican.

The headline of his piece, is “Will Romney Squash GOP Anti-Gay Bigotry?” The short answer is no. The man’s church is anti-gay, he has given thousands of dollars to anti-gay groups, and he doesn’t support gay marriage. Just because he found a great gay PR guy, does not give him a pass in the LGBT community.

Clemons writes about the right -wing extremist hate group American Family Association,  and their spokesmodel Bryan Fischer (he is the brainiac who said that the Nazi’s were all gay).  Clemons says:

Bryan Fischer's anti-gay bigotry, coughed up of late on Romney for hiring Richard Grenell deserves widespread repudiation and scorn by sensible folks on the right and left. Fischer tweeted yesterday:

Romney picks out & loud gay as a spokesman. If personnel is policy, his message to the pro-family community: drop dead

Fischer didn't say the same about John Bolton who was already quite "out" about his support of gay Americans -- and if Fischer scooted through his roster of Republican possibilities, he'd see that nearly all of them had high level, plugged-in, highly competent gay and lesbian staff.

It's Fischer who is the odd man out in American politics; probably irritated that Mitt Romney punched through Fischer's incorrect political analysis of last year. One hopes that Romney stands strong -- and stand by the competence and capacity of people like Grenell -- and that we spend our time battling each other over issues that really matter to the nation.

There I have many differences with Romney, as well as Obama -- but today, Romney gets a salute from me for hiring Grenell.

Excuse me? The man who espouses bigotry gets a special “salute” because he hired a gay man who is good at his job, and knows the political landscape better than most? That doesn’t erase the candidates homophobia? We know Romney will do whatever it takes to try to win - and that includes hiring the fag a gay man, who is the best candidate for the job.

As long as he continues to make anti-gay policies a cornerstone of his platform, and he demeans LGBT relationships with comments like “marriage is between a man and a woman, “ he’s not respecting our community, and he’s a bigot.

Sorry Steve but your story is a non-story. The Mormon man will not be ending anti-gay bigotry.

Yawn.

straight talk in a queer world.
