|Dancing With The Stars; All Stars Season 15 contestant Pamela Anderson.|
The Blonde Baywatch Bombshell otherwise known as Pamela Anderson, and her hunky professional dance partner Tristan MacManus, were the first couple booted off of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars last night - when the week one results were revealed.
Anderson and MacManus, Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, were the three couples with the lowest scores facing elimination.
The premiere episode was impressive, as the majority of contestants are actually pretty good dancers. In addition to Anderson, Lachey and Palin, the celebrity contestants are Kirstie Alley, Sabrina Bryan, Helio Castroneves, Joey Fatone, Shawn Johnson, Kelly Monaco, Gilles Marini, Apolo Anton Ohno, Melissa Rycroft, and Emmitt Smith.
I’m not a big DWTS fan, and watched the first 2 or 3 seasons when it was new and a novelty. One aspect of the show that I had a hard time watching were the bad dancers. There is a steep learning curve the “celebrity” has to endure , and I find it boring to watch bad dancers dance badly. In past seasons, many contestants could barely remember the choreography, and half of the contestants never fully got it and that’s painful to watch too.
There's more to dancing than remembering choreography. The technique and precision must be spot on. The ability to hear the music, and feel the rhythm while moving to the beat is not easy to do. Performing in front of a live audience adds another wrinkle - and the audience at home expects the celebrities to entertain them with their dancing and theatricality.
I prefer to watch trained dancers dance - though this All-star format is pretty good - as the celebrities have been through this once before, and they can dance. I may even watch DWTS this season.
Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke’s cha cha cha was terrific. Watch Emmitt Smith dance next week - as he is nearly perfect. He’s light on his feet, points his toes, extends his arms correctly, and he gets it.
This former NFL running back is phenomenal. What really sets him apart is his energy on the dance floor. He’s a true performer who seems to enjoy it all, and it comes through when he dances. I think he’s the favorite to win and the guy to beat.
I was sorry to see Pamela Anderson go. She admitted that she’s long dreamed of singing and dancing in a Broadway musical, which I thought was endearing. If you look at the cast list - she and Kirstie Alley are the biggest celebrities in the competition - and it won’t be the same without her.
Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars is on ABC on Monday and Tuesday nights. Check your local listings.
