Music: DJ Earworm's United State of Pop 2012 (Shine Brighter) Is Amazing

DJ Earworm, or Jordan Roseman, is a San Francisco based DJ and expert mashup creator. According to Jordan’s website he describes his talent thusly -- “Basically, what I do is take a bunch of songs apart and put them back together again in a different way. I end up with tracks called mashups.”

Wikipedia defines a mashup as “a song or composition created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another.”

However anyone defines a mashup, I’m sure of one thing, and that’s the fact that I really like them. I particularly like DJ Earworm’s mashups, and and always look forward to the release of his annual “United States of Pop” mashup.

What he does to create a mashup is a complete mystery to me, and I think he’s got to be a genius to do what he does. His annual “United States of Pop” song takes the top 25 pop songs of the year, as measured by Billboard, and mashes up the songs into one song. This year's installment is called United States of Pop 2012 (Shine Brighter). Jason Lipshutz at Billboard reports:
Since beginning his "United State of Pop" series in 2007, DJ Earworm has based his mash-up song selection on the year-end Hot 100 chart, which was released on Friday (Dec. 14). Like last year's track, however, "Shine Bright" made allowances for newer songs to be featured more prominently: "Die Young," for instance, is currently a Top 5 hit on the tally, but clocks in at No. 85 on the year-end Hot 100 because of its late release.
I don’t know how he does it, but the final product is amazing. His mashups have even made the Billboard Top 100 themselves.

You can hear this year’s installment, as I’ve embedded it below.
