Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) admits to supporting racism and anti-gay hate since 1984.
The late Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC), who died in 2008, was arguably one of the most divisive American political figures in modern history. He served in the US Senate for 30 years [1972 - 2002], and his claim to fame was that he was an ardent racist who believed in segregation (i.e., he was the lone vote against the creation of the Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday), and he vehemently opposed gay rights and equality for all Americans.
Most Americans (Republicans and Democrats alike) were shocked and horrified that the voters of North Carolina continually re-elected Helms, because they gave him a platform to sow the seeds of racism and anti-gay hate. Helms was "bitterly opposed to federal financing of AIDS research and treatment", because he said that HIV/Aids was God's punishment for homosexual behavior.
Last week Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was the featured speaker at a Heritage Foundation event. If you’re not familiar with the Heritage Foundation, that’s where “Obamacare” was hatched, which the group disavowed when Democrats (Barack Obama) came out in support of the idea.
In reality, the organization is a favorite of right-wing extremists, and I think they're a hate group masquerading as a make believe think-tank. This phony tax-exempt organization was hosting their “4th Annual Jesse Helms Lecture Series,” and Cruz made a confession to the gaggle of right-wingers. [emphasis mine]
“The very first political contribution I ever made in my life was to Jesse Helms. When I was a kid, I sent $10 to Jesse Helms, ’cause they were beating up on him. They were coming after him hard and I thought it wasn’t right, and at the time my allowance was 50 cents a week. I’m willing to venture a guess that I may have been Jesse Helms’ single largest donor as a percentage of annual income.”
We can all do the math here. Senator Ted Cruz was born in Canada in 1970, and Cruz likely made the campaign contribution to Helms for his 1984 race. He didn’t like that Helms political opponents were calling North Carolina's Republican Senator out for being a racist and homophobic. Cruz's shocking admission that he's been supporting racism and anti-gay hate for 29 years, should have resulted in a GOP outcry, yet Republicans have been silent.
The most incendiary remark that Cruz made that day, was his suggestion that the US Senate needs more racist and anti-gay Senators among their ranks.
“We need a hundred more like Jesse Helms in the U.S. Senate,” Cruz said.
Voters in Texas should be demanding that the tea-bagger resign. The Princeton University and Harvard University Law School graduate, is a disgrace to our country.
The bottom line is simple. Texas Senator Ted Cruz is a racist pig, and we must do everything we can to shine a light on his reprehensible nature, so that we can eradicate racism and discrimination from society, as well as politics.I’ve had enough of Ted Cruz and his nonsense, and hope that voters in Texas recall him from office. What about you?
