Carson Daly Says Gay Men Are Weak

Gay 9/11 Hero’s Mom Rips Daly A New Asshole

Carson Daly said that gay men wouldn’t have been able to subdue the Jet Blue pilot who had a melt down during the flight. During his radio show, Daly said:

The National Organization for Marriage Steals Karl Rove’s 2004 Playbook

The Huffington Post said “NOM's Malodorous Methods Fan the Flames of Hate,” and thegrio.com said “Race-baiting to stop marriage equality is wrong,” and  policymic.com said “Secret Docs Show National Organization for Marriage Aims for Gay vs. Black Social Warfare.” The New York Times was much more subdued, with “The Anti-Marriage Battle Plan.”

Hollywood Studios Spent $123 Million Dollars On Political Donations And Lobbying For Anti-Piracy Bills

I’m a movie buff, and love old films and new ones too. I regularly buy movies on blu-ray, that I want to add to my film collection. With the advent of blu-ray, I appreciate the medium even more than I did before. Something that’s incredibly frustrating to me is the fact that Hollywood tries to criminalize file sharing and the piracy of movies.

Video: America's Best Christian Released A Super-Pac Ad for GOP

Mrs. Betty Bowers, America’s best Christian, has had a long time love affair with our nation’s Republican party. She made a campaign commercial for the GOP, and it’s must see TV! This is the sort of video that I wish that I had made, the production values are great and the message is clear and strong. Please check it out!

DOMA: San Francisco Bay Area Married Couple Granted 6 Month Reprieve With No Guarantees From Federal Court

Alphonso Garcia & Brian Willingham Won The Battle, As The United States Citizenship And Immigration Service Continues To Wage War Against Them, And Many Other American Families & Bi-national LGBT Couples

Last summer, a happily married couple were in their car, when a bay area police officer pulled them over. They cooperated with the policeman’s request, and as part of the routine, the officer ran a background check to see if there were any outstanding warrants for the two men in the car. What transpired next, has threatened their relationship, their freedom, and impacted their lives in a way that most people would find unimaginable.

My Life, My Beloved Rutgers, Tyler Clementi, Dharun Ravi, And You?

In The Daily Beast, Michael Medved Obsesses About Gay Sex At Rutgers And Beyond, While Trivializing The Issues

Any time that the Tyler Clementi tragedy is in the news, Rutgers is in the news too. I’m a rabid Rutgers sports fan, and incredibly proud of my alma mater. Women were first admitted to Rutgers College in the 1970’s, and it’s not very fitting, but the first line of the alma mater, written in 1874,  is My father sent me to old Rutgers, and resolved that I should be a man. I was thinking about that line this morning, and how circumstances have affected Tyler Clementi and Dharun Ravi. Neither will experience growing up and maturing “on the banks,” and becoming a man, as the alma mater implores, and that’s incredibly sad no matter how you slice it.

Dancing With The Stars: The Cuban Hunk & Tennis Legend Can Dance

I have admit, I’m not a huge fan of Dancing With The Stars. I also have to say that this is the first time I’ve posted a gratuitous photo of a hot guy, as I don’t want to detract from what I write. I had no idea who was dancing as far as the stars go, and tuned in on Monday night specifically to see Jaleel White dance. Not knowing that he’d be last, I saw and actually enjoyed Gavin DeGraw, Sherri Shepherd, Gladys Knight and a Cuban born hunk that I’d never heard of before, WIlliam Levy. Wow. I have a feeling that he’s going to stick around for awhile.

But the real story was not just the fact that Gay Icon /Lesbian Royalty in the form of Martina Navratilova was wearing a dress, looking beautiful and wasn't a bad dancer on the dance floor, her best friend and tennis nemesis, Chris Evert was in the audience to support her. Two of the greatest women tennis player’s of all time were supporting each other. That’s absolutely amazing.

I may even watch again.

TV: Review Of Bravo's Interior Therapy With The 'Queen Of Mean' Jeff Lewis

Review: Miss Lewis' Bad Behavior Makes His Good Design Work Lose Some Of It's Shine

I watched the premier episode of Bravo’s Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis. The basic premise is that Miss Lewis goes to someone’s home and moves in for 5 days, while he supervises a small renovation, and redecorates the rooms. Jeff’s trusted assistant, Jenni Pulos, moves in too, while Zoila Chavez, the happy housekeeper - only makes a token appearance.

In Pictures: Bravo's "Interior Therapy With Jeff Lewis"

If you watched - or didn’t watch - the premier episode of Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis, here are the screen shots from Episode One. You can’t say that Jeff Lewis doesn’t have good taste.

Commentary: On The 'Queen of Mean' Jeff Lewis and Reality TV

It’s like watching a car accident - it’s awful to see - but sometimes you can’t turn away

I’ve been a fan of Jeff Lewis interior design work since I saw the first episode of Flipping Out. I’ve watched every episode, and have pretty strong opinions about the show, and the cast of each season. There aren’t many LGBT individuals fronting a television show, so like many other people, I’ve tuned in year after year, and week after week.

Jive Five: Five Recommendations For Maintaining Your Windows Computer

Tech Talk: The Dreaded Blue Screen Of Death
I was talking with my sister recently, and somehow our discussion turned to cell phones. She has a new iPhone 4S, and she was gushing about how much she likes her phone. I asked her if she regularly backs it up. I knew that she wasn’t an Apple or iTunes person, and wondered how installing iTunes, and syncing her phone, went. Suddenly there was dead air on the line. Then she said “what?” No one had told her to install iTunes, or that she could back everything up that way.

I was thinking about the 3 candidates (Romney, Gingrich, Santorum), and how one is a theocrat, one is a plutocrat, and one is an unethical former bureaucrat. That brought up visions of a joke. You know how it goes, a rabbi, a priest, and a minster walks into a bar and [fill in the blank]. I thought it was funny to hear a theocrat, a plutocrat, and a bureaucrat walk into a bar and......you’ll have to watch the video!

Alabama Republicans Just As Bright As GOP Candidates. Not!

I’m frightened. Very frightened.

I was listening to an NPR story today, that was originally broadcast on Tuesday March 13, 2012, or primary day in Alabama and Mississippi. The story, by Russel Lewis, is entitled “In South, GOP Voters Balance Faith, Defeating Obama.”

Last Monday night Rick ‘Sicko’ Santorum, and Newtie Newt Gingrich, took part in a candidates forum in Birmingham, Alabama. The NPR reporter was there, and that’s where he filed his report. I actually had to rewind the podcast I was listening to, because I couldn’t quite believe what I heard.

Video: Gentlemen's Rant - The Ipad

Are you going to be buying the new iPad (3rd generation)? I have to admit that I’m considering it. I watch TV and sometimes use my Dell netbook to check email, or write myself a note, or quickly look something up. I think a tablet would be much easier, but don’t know if I want to be further entrenched in the Apple eco-system, beyond my iPod.

While I was watching TWiT TV with Leo Laporte this week (TWiT TV is This Week in Tech), they played this youtube video, which I think is brilliant. The guys behind Gentlemen’s Rant are pretty clever, and use satire to comment on the issues of the day. Check it out.

Top Chef Texas Reunion: More Drama, Laughs and Tears

I’m not sure when cable’s Bravo TV became the “gay network,” or when I even noticed, but I watch the Bravo stable of shows more than any any other channel on the dial. Some of the reality shows that Bravo produces could be called trash TV to some extent (I’m thinking of the  Housewives franchise primarily), and I think Top Chef  is one of the best reality competition shows on television, along with Project Runway (formerly a Bravo property), and The Amazing Race.

Where’s Oprah Winfrey when you need her?

In the good old days, if Oprah had heard about the plight of the film Bully, she would have screened the film for her studio audience, and invited the filmmaker and cast for a sit down interview and audience discussion. By the end of the show the studio audience, and viewers at home, would be ready to storm the MPAA offices. The MPAA would feel the wrath of the Oprah Effect, and change the rating on the spot.

Hollywood: The Anti-Gay MPAA Has Double Standards

Alex, of Sioux City, Iowa is one of 5 kids featured in the film "Bully."

Please Help! Is The MPAA  Homophobic? Explain "Gunner Palace" To Me?
Alex, 12 of Sioux City, Iowa, pictured above, is one of 5 kids who are featured in the documentary film Bully. The Weinstein Company film is scheduled to be released at the end of the month. The movie follows 5 kids and their families, over the course of an entire school year. and according to promotional materials the“film offers insight into the often cruel world of the lives of bullied children.”

I read yesterday that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), which is owned by Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios and Warner Brothers, and allegedly self regulates the motion-picture industry - better known as “Hollywood,” and also happens to control film ratings, gave an “R” rating to the film Bully. According to press reports, the film was given an “R” Rating because the word “fuck” is used 6 times in the film.

I’m sorry but that's just foolish and INSANE. Since an “R” rating was assigned to the movie, kids won’t be able to go see it unless an adult (parent/guardian) is present, and they will not be able to show the film within schools. I wonder if the fact that the movie is not a big studio release, is owned by the independent minded studio, the Weinstein Company, had any impact on the decision.

This crap infuriates me - and I hope that you are as infuriated as I am. I emailed the MPAA, I wrote a letter to the current Chairman, Senator Christopher Dodd, and I faxed the letter to the MPAA offices in New York, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. I also signed the petition at change.org. There are currently over 200,000 signatures.

In a review of the film in Variety, by Ronnie Scheib, it says:

Perhaps most shocking is the extent to which this violent behavior is accepted as normal, shrugged off as "boys will be boys." One assistant principal forces a bully and his victim to shake hands to "resolve" the conflict. Alex's father is seen advising him to stand up to the other kids to prove he's not a punching bag, as if that were a prerequisite for being treated like a human being.

Certainly no one would mistake 16-year-old star athlete Kelby for a punching bag. But when she comes out as gay, she is insulted, ostracized, deliberately struck by a car and denied a place on sports teams she once dominated. In interviews, she initially refuses to leave her small Oklahoma hometown for more tolerant pastures, adamant in her belief she can make a difference. After months of oppression, however, she realizes she cannot do so alone.

Don’t read the reviews - as it could diminish the impact of the film. I have to say that this is a film that has to be seen by young and old alike.

When I was reading about this story when I woke up this morning, I was reminded how just one person can have a positive impact through selfless acts. I read about Katy Butler, a 17 year old high school student in Michigan. The CNN.com website published this:

Katy Butler, a 17-year-old high school student from Michigan, delivered a petition (with more than 200,000 signatures) Wednesday to the Motion Picture Association of America's office in Sherman Oaks, California.

Her message: Lower the MPAA rating of the upcoming Weinstein Company documentary from R to PG-13. "Bully," a look at the rise of adolescent bullying in America, was rated R for "some language" -- specifically for the f-word, which is used a reported six times in the film. An R rating means that adolescents under the age of 17 -- the documentary's intended audience -- cannot see the film without an adult guardian.

Butler, who came out as a lesbian in middle school and has been the victim of repeated bullying, launched the online petition on February 26. Since then, she has been featured on CNN and Fox News, and was in the audience during today's taping of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," during which DeGeneres urged her viewers to also sign the petition.

BRAVO Katy. Some kids have such tremendous courage at such a young age, and it’s incredible.

Please do what you can to call, or write, or email the MPAA, and/or the Classification and Ratings Board. Please "like" the film Bully on Facebook. You can ask your friends to do the same. We have to stand up when people are biased and act so stupidly.

There is a documentary film called Gunner Palace. It too was given an “R” rating. The word "fuck" is apparently uttered over 40 times! The MPAA changed the rating to PG13. There is a precedent here. Make your voice heard! You can copy and paste my letter if you’d like - I don’t care - as long as you send it. I will post my letter separately)

We’re doing this for the other Katy’s and Alex’s in the world. And we’re doing it because it’s the right thing to do.
