New Yorker Cover 5/21/12 Artist: Bob Staake |
The New Yorker has chosen to celebrate President Obama’s support for marriage equality,by devoting the cover to the President’s announcement. The south portico of the White House was given a rainbow hue.
In the New Yorker’s blog, the artist, Bob Staake, wrote:
“I
am honored to be doing this cover. It’s a celebratory moment for our
country, and that’s what I tried to capture. (I don’t especially like
those rainbow colors, but they are what they are—I had to use them.) I
wanted to celebrate the bravery of the President’s statement—a statement
long overdue—but all the more appreciated in this political year. We are on the right side of history.”
I love the New Yorker, and if I was trapped on a desert island, and could only take one thing with me - it would be my New Yorker subscription.
Thank you New Yorker!
