The New Yorker Celebrates Marriage Equality With 5/21/12 Cover: “Spectrum Of Light”

New Yorker Cover 5/21/12   Artist: Bob Staake
The New Yorker celebrates President Obama’s support for marriage equality,by devoting the 5/21/12 cover to the President’s announcement.

The New Yorker has chosen to celebrate President Obama’s support for marriage equality,by devoting the cover to the President’s announcement. The south portico of the White House was given a rainbow hue.

In the New Yorker’s blog, the artist, Bob Staake, wrote:

“I am honored to be doing this cover. It’s a celebratory moment for our country, and that’s what I tried to capture. (I don’t especially like those rainbow colors, but they are what they are—I had to use them.) I wanted to celebrate the bravery of the President’s statement—a statement long overdue—but all the more appreciated in this political year. We are on the right side of history.”

I love the New Yorker, and if I was trapped on a desert island, and could only take one thing with me - it would be my New Yorker subscription.

Thank you New Yorker!

I want to say thanks for commenting. I don’t think people say ‘thanks’ often enough and I know that it’s a big step to go from “lurker” to “participant”. It means a lot to me that you decided to take the time to comment on a post, and join the conversation here. I think we have a great community and your presence can only make it stronger.
