Anti-Gay Cardinal Timothy Dolan Paid Off Pedophile Priests

Cardinal Timothy Dolan Anti-Gay Bigot

Mess In Milwaukee --- The Morally Bankrupt Cardinal Bankrupted The Archdiocese of Milwaukee

By Roy Steele

Cardinal Timothy Dolan should be forced to relinquish his crown, his pretty ring, and all those big red dresses he wears to mass all the time. As for calling him “your eminence,” that style of address should be eliminated too. The only thing eminent about Cardinal Dolan is his waistline, and it’s impolite to call attention to that.

The bigoted anti-gay disgraced portly Cardinal Timothy Dolan has a new skill to brag about and add to his resume, and it's not penance. His bigotry has been well documented, and based on news accounts today, he’s a damn good liar too.

When Dolan was asked if he authorized $20,000 payments to pedophile priests, as the archbishop of Milwaukee, he responded that any claim to that effect was wrong and ridiculous. In fact, the New York Times says:
Questioned at the time about the news that one particularly notorious pedophile cleric had been given a “payoff” to leave the priesthood, Cardinal Dolan, then the archbishop, responded that such an inference was “false, preposterous and unjust.”
After Cardinal Dolan left the Milwaukee diocese for New York, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops probably thought that his pedophile payoffs would never come to light. There wasn’t a paper trail, and the pedophile priests were either imprisoned, or they left the church with their hush money, for greener pastures.

Cardinal Bigot Dolan received a big promotion when he dashed to the east coast to run the Archdiocese of New York, and no one knew about the mess he made in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Archdiocese paying off those criminal priests ran out of money after he left, and had to declare bankruptcy. During bankruptcy proceedings, a victims’ advocate unearthed a smoking gun. In that same New York Times article I cited above, they added:
But a document unearthed during bankruptcy proceedings for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and made public by victims’ advocates reveals that the archdiocese did make such payments to multiple accused priests to encourage them to seek dismissal, thereby allowing the church to remove them from the payroll.
I can understand the desire to remove pedophile priests from the priesthood, and the Church, because of their transgressions. Raping and abusing children is one of the most heinous crimes known to man, and justice in these cases should be swift and severe. Issuing a $20,000  severance check to an employee who has been fired with cause, because of criminal activity, is not a standard practice for any organization, and doesn’t comport a swift and severe punishment.

Colleen Curry at ABC News spoke with Peter Isely, of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP).
According to Peter Isely, of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP), the payments are tantamount to “bonuses” paid out to child rapists and molestors.
“I don’t know any other organization that when you’re fired from your job because of a criminal act, you get paid to leave your job,” Isely said. “Obviously something is profoundly wrong with this system that they say is fixed. You’re paying off a child rapist; you’re giving them a bonus check; it’s a bonus basically.”
The Cardinal Bigot Dolan has strong opinions about SNAP, and so does his friend and ally, the biggest blowhard bigot there is, Catholic League president Bill Donohue. Blowhard bigot Donohue says that SNAP is a “phony victims’ group.” And if you follow that link to Dolan’s blog post, you will see that the bigot Cardinal agrees with Donohue’s false assertion that SNAP is a phony group.

In the public comments posted below the “phony victims’ group” blog post, Father Bob Hoatson, a Catholic priest said:
Once again, Archbishop Dolan, you chose the wrong path, which places you among the “weeds” rather than the “seeds.” Unlike your colleague in Dublin, Ireland, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, who admits time after time that the Church got it wrong and gets it wrong when it comes to clergy sexual abuse and focuses on the healing of victims, you, Archbishop Dolan, use the words of the “sultan of hate speech,” Bill Donohue, to defend yourself against that which is defenseless.
I’ve heard Donohue called a lot of things, and this good Catholic priest, Father Hoatson, hit the nail squarely on the head. I agree that the Catholic League’s Donohue is the “sultan of hate speech.” Father Hoatson is a very credible critic in my estimation, as he has devoted a tremendous amount of time and energy to the charitable organization called “Road to Recovery,” which he founded in order to assist victims of the clergy abuse scandal.

In his August 2011 comment, Father Hoatson alluded to money that was missing in Milwaukee.
And, please tell us what happened to that money in Milwaukee that was earmarked for victims that allegedly ended up in the cemetery fund. Now that Archbishop Weakland and Bishop Sklba will be deposed in clergy abuse cases in Milwaukee, will your subpoena to appear be far behind?
And, finally, please do what I asked you to do when you first arrived in NY as Archbishop……sever ties with the Catholic League. It is neither (and never) Catholic nor Christian in its treatment of persons and ideas. It is an embarrassment to the Church. Drop it from the list of Catholic organizations!
Please, be transparent, honest, and truthful….it will set you free.
The NY Cardinal is not transparent, honest or truthful, so the big bigot will never be set free. Dolan has been forced to admit that the payments to pedophile priests were made. ABC News says:
Dolan declined to comment on the matter, but the archdiocese of New York told ABC News today that Dolan “has read and supports the statements that came out of Milwaukee.”
Isely said that up until at least 2010, priests accused of pedophilia were still being paid the money, typically divided into two payments of $10,000 - one when they began the process of laicization, and one when they completed it.
Dolan left the Milwaukee archdiocese in 2009 to become archbishop of New York, the second largest diocese in the country, and in 2010 became the head of the conference of bishops, the most visible Catholic role in the country. Isely, of SNAP, wondered if Dolan now presided over similar arrangements in other dioceses.
“Is this a nationwide policy by U.S. bishops to pay off priests? To dump them quietly into the community, and when they do this, they don’t tell people who these individuals are,” Isely said.
Months after Dolan left Milwaukee, the archdiocese there filed for bankruptcy, after more than 570 alleged victims came forward claiming abuse by priests.
Dolan loves to speak to news organizations to promote himself, or to sell anti-gay bigotry to his congregants. He’s ducking the news media right now, because they’re going to nail him on this one.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan is a morally bankrupt anti-gay bigot with a propensity to lie. If he loses his current gig, he could always get a job on a used car lot, because it’s more than obvious that he’s highly qualified to work in that arena.

If you take the sum of all of these parts, it’s not a pretty picture that emerges. Payoffs to priests, his hatred and bigotry toward the LGBT community, and his signature on the Manhattan declaration that said he wouldn’t comply with any rule or law that goes against his religious conscience, guarantees that he will remain a polarizing figure.

This allegedly pious man is our country’s top Catholic with his role as president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, with 2.5 million Roman Catholics, is the nation’s second-largest diocese after the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Cardinal Dolan has stated his belief that breaking the law in support of a religious cause is perfectly acceptable. That’s why lying, payoffs, and criminal behavior comes easy to the Cardinal.

The good Catholics of New York deserve better. As an ecclesiastical prince of the Catholic Church, he should be forced to relinquish his crown, his pretty ring, and all those big red dresses he wears to mass all the time. As for calling him “your eminence,” that style of address should be eliminated too. The only thing eminent about Cardinal Dolan is his waistline, and it’s impolite to call attention to that.

If I was Pope, I’d suggest that he return to Missouri as a parish priest. Then he would learn that the Church doesn’t exist to facilitate priests or former priests bank accounts, and that those collection plates aren’t passed around church to pay off criminals, and people don’t go to church and encourage their children to be confirmed, so that they can be molested by the same priests and Cardinals who have their hands out looking for money.
