Anti-Gay Discrimination Is Flourishing In America

A handwritten sign that says discrimination is a crime.

By Roy Steele

I’m a gay man who has experienced discrimination in the workplace in the past, and I’ve seen other gay co-workers castigated too, because of their sexual orientation. Maybe you’ve witnessed anti-gay discrimination.

Discrimination on every level is wrong, and until our political leaders make the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) a priority, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people will continue to be victims of discrimination.

Discriminating against "queers" is ingrained in our culture. That’s why ineffective leaders like Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), don’t believe that anti-gay discrimination is a problem that requires legislative action.

Crowded urban centers are really the last place you want to be at the height of summer heat.  If you’re anything like me, you’d rather be somewhere close to a large body of water, a breezy back porch and gorgeous views.

And you’d much prefer if that idyllic place was friendly to gay travelers.  So, for your vacationing pleasure, we’re highlighting 3 of the most gay-friendly vacation spots in the country.  Read on to find out what makes them special and a few of our suggestions of what to do when you’re there.

Gay Marriage: Clela Rorex Is A Super Hero

Sue Larson (L) and her friend Clela Rorex (R)

AUDIO: Clela Rorex, a former County Clerk in Boulder, Colorado, tells her friend Sue Larson about issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples in 1975.
I read about Clela Rorex a few weeks ago, and her story made me tear up, and I nearly cried. This four minute audio story is amazing. Imagine it’s 1975, and two gay men come to your office to get a marriage license.

Clela Rorex tells the story to her friend Sue Larson, and you can listen to it, and read the transcript, if you click on “READ MORE.”

Dan Savage Is A Gay Idiot: OOPS He Did It Again

Sex columnist Dan Savage
I’m a gay man and I’m almost 50. I watched my peers when I was a very young adult fuck themselves to death.
Dan Savage --- Death, Sex & Money Podcast

By Roy Steele

I really don’t know what to think of Dan Savage. I think that his heart is in the right place mostly, and that largely he’s been a good ambassador for the LGBT movement. He’s handsome, smart and articulate. He doesn’t shy away from verbal tussles, and he’s not afraid to call out religious hypocrisy when he sees it. Those are all pluses in my book.

Dan’s take down of Rick ‘Sicko’ Santorum is legendary, and that action alone will hold a special place in my heart forever.

Then there’s the controversy that seems to follow him everywhere. He has a habit of opening mouth and inserting his own foot fairly often, and that’s where he gets a big fat demerit.

Violence Murder And War Create Preventable Tragedies

Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 wreckage, Violence and War in the Gaza Strip, and NYPD Police brutality

By Roy Steele

MH 17 Crash, Gaza Strip Violence, NYPD Police Brutality, Innocent Woman Murdered in Detroit, are all in the news. These deaths are preventable. Who has the balls to do anything about it?

Over the past few days the 24 news cycle has been understandably consumed with news about Malaysian Airlines flight 17, that was destroyed in a missile attack, last week over eastern Ukraine. At the same time, the world is boiling with conflict and death.

3 Gay Cheers! RuPaul’s Drag Race Wins TV Critics Award

Two executives accepted the TCA Award for "RuPaul's Drag Race"

By Roy Steele

I don’t know about you, but when I looked at the Primetime Emmy Award nominations for 2014, and didn’t see RuPaul’s Drag Race nominated in any category, I was pissed off and disappointed. Over the years, RuPaul’s Drag Race  has developed into a great show that’s consistently funny, full of emotion, and one of the most entertaining shows on television. Critics love it, both straight and gay audiences love it, and the Primetime Emmy Awards shun the show.

Last night the Television Critics Association (TCA) handed out their awards for the 2013 - 2014 TV season in Beverly Hills, at its 30th Annual TCA Awards presentation. The award for outstanding achievement in reality programming went to RuPaul’s Drag Race!

Gay American Icon Actor George Takei: It’s Takei’s Time

George Takei is the subject of the film "To Be Takei"

By Spencer Blohm

For 77 year old actor and Hollywood/LGBT icon George Takei, life hasn’t always been easy – in fact, it often still isn’t. However this, dare I say it, “senior citizen,” appears to be just hitting his stride. He has become a media darling, is beloved by his fans, reigns as an internet superstar, and has even revived his career in the meantime.

George Takei’s incredible life story is the subject of a new documentary from director Jennifer Kroot called To Be Takei. The film is exclusively being run as part of a special that DirecTV offers from July 3rd through August 5th, before being released more widely.

Sarah Palin Is A Gay Man In Drag

RuPaul as Sarah Palin

Is Sarah Palin a gay man in drag? I doubt it. Is she a lesbian? Probably not, and I’ve been struggling with semantics over the last few days, about how to characterize her stupidity.

I’m committed to always telling the unvarnished truth, and go to great lengths to research every news story before I write about it, or offer an opinion.

Gay News This Week: Employment Discrimination & Marriage Equality

Anti-gay discrimination is cowardly, ungodly, and downright immoral.

Religious Organizations Want Permission to Discriminate

By Roy Steele

Washington, D.C. --- On the eve of President Obama signing an Executive Order banning federal contractors from discriminating against employees based on sexual orientation or gender identity, a new study found that 23% of LGBT employees applying for work to federal contractors are less likely to receive a call-back from a potential employer, than their straight counterpart.
