About Jive in the [415]

Jive in the [415] is your best source of gay news, information, and political commentary, for the LGBTQ+ community, our friends, and allies.

This gay LGBTQ+ politically progressive blog has a point of view.

Jiveinthe415.com is dedicated to advancing gay LGBTQ+ equality and civil rights, which is why we examine the socio-political, religious, and cultural challenges, confronting the gay community today.

While most of our focus is on the expansion of gay and transgender civil rights, we also cover national politics and right-wing bigotry. Our extensive coverage of religion, marriage equality, mental health, and the hate group industry, sets us apart from most other websites.

We are unwavering advocates for women’s rights, racial equality, Black Lives Matter, and Planned Parenthood. We promote anti-bullying programs because we believe that every student has a right to be educated in an environment that’s conducive to learning --- free from harassment and devoid of bullying, and our writing reflects that.

Our goal is to provide you with incisive and thought-provoking writing and political commentary. We welcome your comments and feedback and hope that you’ll be an active member of our community.

About Roy Steele

Roy Steele is a gay male blogger, queer activist, equality advocate, anti-bullying evangelist, and political meteorologist.

Roy Steele
He crusades against the lies and misinformation that right-wing extremists and evangelical Christians use to spread anti-gay propaganda.

He led a successful boycott of American retail stores that were financing anti-gay hate groups through affiliate marketing schemes.

The boycott received extensive coverage from major media organizations. New York Times Opinion Writer Michelle Goldberg wrote about the boycott for Newsweek and The Daily Beast, in an article entitled “Christian Group’s New Gay War,” and The New York Times documented his campaign in “Retailers get heat for sales that generate anti-gay aid.”

Anti-gay former Arkansas governor and perennial Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, called Roy “an economic terrorist” because his boycott campaign resulted in over 200 major retail organizations severing ties with his Christian Values Network and the Charity Give Back Group. The benign-sounding groups were using affiliate marketing shopping links to funnel money to anti-gay hate groups like the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family.

Steele is a northern New Jersey native, who majored in English and Political Science, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He trained as a musical theatre actor at the Guildford School of Acting - University of Surrey, in Guildford, Surrey England, and made his professional debut in London’s West End at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Barbican Theatre.

He was a Financial Analyst in the private sector for many years, and has worked as an actor, voice-over artist, singer, political meteorologist, itinerant nag, and urban gadfly throughout his life. He’s a world traveler, and a lifelong Mets and NY Giants fan, who avidly follows the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in football and basketball.
